Rich with history, rife with culture, sprawling with natural beauty - no superlative quite does it justice. Icebergs, whales, puffins, parks, historic monuments, church suppers, outfitters, adventures, five star accommodations, tiny cottages, handmade objects, strange berries, community theatre, ancient peoples, explorers, dancing Northern lights, music, and conversation. Newfoundland and Labrador Artisans:
Once you've decided to visit Newfoundland and Labrador, a drive up the Great Northern Peninsula is a must. Along the way you'll see barrens and bogs and rocky outcrops - typical habitat of the wild berries that are crafted into delicious preserves, syrups, and chocolates at The Dark Tickle Co., a wild berry ÉCONOMUSÉE®. Here you can wander on an interpretive boardwalk, peer in the window as the hand-picked berries are transformed into delicious syrups, jams, and other delights, eat in the cafe, and chat with the berry experts. If you're looking for special souvenirs, you've arrived at the right place! Everything from teas to jams, syrups to chocolates can be found here to take back home.
From the Deer Lake Airport to the town of St. Lunaire-Griquet where The Dark Tickle Company is located will take you five hours. However, this is a route that you want to enjoy! Spend some time in Gros Morne National Park - take a hike or a boat ride in Western Brook Pond, a gorgeous Canadian fjord. From Gros Morne National Park you will follow Route 430 North towards Port aux Choix and St. Anthony. As you come into St. Lunaire-Griquet, you will easily find The Dark Tickle Company located at 75 Main St. Approximately 10 minutes from Dark Tickle is the UNESCO World Heritage Site L'Anse aux Meadows.
Your visit would not be complete without being greeted by Sébastien and Nieves, the resident Dark Tickle Newfoundland dogs!
