Kim is originally from Calgary. She moved to Halifax in 1988 to attend the BComm program at Dalhousie University. After graduating, she and her husband Neil moved west to work (spending six years in Edmonton). In 1999, they moved back and settled in Antigonish (Neil's home town). In 2000, Kim realized her dream of owning her own store after purchasing and renovating a 100-year-old farmhouse. After discovering the beautiful quilt shops out west, and taking classes, Kim knew that this was an area that she would enjoy and that was untapped in her part of the province. Kim opened in the fall and taught classes. A year and half later, they built a big addition to the back of the house, allowing Kim to carry a more extensive selection of fabrics. The focus of the store has been teaching new quilters, and they carry a large line of kits. While the focus has been primarily on raw materials for sewing, they are ready to make the transition to selling more finished goods, in the hopes of building up a larger tourist base. Kim has been designing some of her own patterns, and puts a free pattern on her website each month.
