Artifacts in Clay

Christie is a graduate of the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design and of Sheridan College of Craft and Design. Artifacts in Clay was established by Christie as Duncan's Cove Pottery in 1987. For years, Christie worked from her home in Chester. Initially, she used the traditional wheel method of production, but in 1998 she became interested in the ram-press technique after learning about it in ceramic periodicals. Currently, Christie does virtually all her work with the ram press, using the potter's wheel only for finishing and trimming her pieces.

In 2004, the business moved into the new building housing the current studio where Christie and her assistants create award-winning, unique, functional ceramics that reflect the beauty of nature. Glazes are lead free, stable and suitable for use in the oven, microwave and dishwasher. Christie is the 2005 recipient of the ACCAE award for Excellence in Product Design.
